The soft pink truth is that nose cartilage is sensitive and delicate and it never did anything to you so it is probably not a good idea for you to pierce it with a needle. First of all, it hurts. Secondly, it looks weird. Thirdly, I feel shaky and defeated because people that previously would have made eye contact with me now look away and grumble something about kids these days and debt consolidation and job security.

Yesterday it struck me that I have my nose pierced AND I'm a vegan, a most cliched combination. I must admit, however, how satisfying it is to look at my hands or my feet, and to think that I am mainly made of vegetables and fruits, beans and grains. I'm like an organic, free-range human that photosynthesizes.
