no pictures, forever, the floods. the worst monsoons in india in a century. I was stuck in a car for thirty hours, walking through water five feet deep, an overturned cow carcass to my left. 'this is india,' people say wryly, as if I didn't know where I was. packs of hungry people, beating on the car with sticks. want a ride. everyone wants to be somewhere else. 1000 people died. I am here and this is happening.
